M. S. Swaminathan

Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan is an Indian geneticist and international administrator, renowned for his leading role in India's "Green Revolution," a program under which high-yield varieties of wheat and rice seedlings were planted in the fields of poor farmers. Swaminathan is known as "Indian Father of Green Revolution" for his leadership and success in introducing and further developing high-yielding varieties of wheat in India. He is the founder and chairman of the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation. Swaminathan is an advocate of moving India to sustainable development, especially using environmentally sustainable agriculture, sustainable food security and the preservation of biodiversity, which he calls an "evergreen revolution."

K. S. S. Nambooripad

K. S. S. Nambooripad is an Indian mathematician who has made fundamental contributions to the structure theory of regular semigroups. Nambooripad was also instrumental in popularising the TeX software in India and also in introducing and championing the cause of the free software movement in India.

Prof. G. N. Ramachandran

Prof. G. N. Ramachandran was born in 1922 in Ernakulam and studied at the S. R. V. School, Ernakulam. He did his intermediate from Maharaja's College, Ernakulam where his father, G. Narayana Iyer was the Principal and completed the course securing first rank in the Madras Presidency. He did his B. Sc. (Hons) in Physics and later joined the IISc Bangalore where he became the most distinguished student of Sir. C. V. Raman. Prof. Ramachandran along with Gopinath Kartha was the first to propose a triple-helical model for the structure of Collagen using X-ray diffraction. He also made other major contributions in Biology and Physics; examined the various Polypeptide conformations and also developed a good 'yardstick' that could be used for assessing any structure in general and Peptides in particular. The result which emerged from these calculations in 1962, now commonly known as the "Ramachandran Plot" has become an essential tool in the field of Protein conformation.

Changampuzha Krishna Pillai

A celebrated Malayalam poet from Kerala, India, known for his romantic elegy "Ramanan" which was written in 1936 and sold over 100,000 copies. It is a long pastoral elegy, a play written in the form of verse, allegedly based on the life of Changampuzha's friend Edappally Raghavan Pillai. This has also been converted into a movie in 1967. He is credited with bringing poetry to the masses with his simple romantic style.

P. K. Chathan Master

P. K. Chathan Master was the first Dalit minister of Kerala (in 1920). He was the Minister for Local Self Government and Harijan Welfare of the State of Kerala in the 1957 EMS government. Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha (KPMS) was established in 1970 under the leadership of P. K. Chathan Master. From 1974 to 1976 he served as the Chairman of the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. During a long span of public life he had also served as the Vice Chairman of the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board. The Kuttamkulam struggle (Vazzhinadakkal Samaram) in 1946 was started as a protest against untouchability in to the premise of the Kudalmanikyam temple in Irinjalakuda.

Alappat Sreedhara Menon (18 December 1925 – 23 July 2010) was a historian from Kerala, India. He received the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, for Literature and Education in 2009. Menon was a noted academic, having taught history across the universities in Kerala. Menon edited eight volumes of Kerala Gazetteers and was on the editorial board of journals including the Journal of Indian History and Journal of Kerala Studies, both published by the Department of History, University of Kerala. He completed his Bachelor of Arts from the Maharaja's College, Ernakulam, winning the Karimpat Rama Menon Gold Medal and the Rama Varma Shashtiabdapurthi Memorial Prize for English.
